Who said they were models? They're a girl band. Too bad the photo wasn't vastly over-photoshopped for your enjoyment.

Does anyone have any experience/recommendations for binding a NAS to Open Directory for user/group authentication? A number of NAS will authenicate to Active Directory, but apparently OS X Server's Windows support is well below par to support this. QNAP have a firmware update expected July/August which will inbclude wider LDAP support, but is there anything that will work now?

Of course it's for the protection of the public, but it's also not supposed to be a pleasant experience, it's supposed to suck. If you don't think that, i don't know what else to tell you, you're just too separated from reality at this point to turn back.
I'm not separated from reality; in fact I'd suggest that I'm much closer than you are, having spent quite a bit of time employed by the agency I quoted, in a prison, surrounded by inmates living that life.
Imprisonment in most institutions is unpleasant by its very nature. If you don't think that, I'd suggest watching some documentaries on prison life.

How do you know you will lose the rollover mins? Does it state this?
I'm changing my voice plan as well so yes it states that you can't bring over minutes in excess of what the new plans minutes are. So I'll transfer 450 and lose the rest.
If just changing your messaging package then no that won't effect your minutes.

Clive, I am with you, but unfortunately we live in a society that worship celebrities and violence. It won't change.
Teachers should start salaries in the $100k a year and climb up from there to the amount of years in the job. But it's a dream that will never happen.:(
Beautifully said. I couldn't expound anymore on this wonderful observation. The iPod is against the grain of celebrity and violence thank goodness. Maybe bring us worldpeace eh? :)

Wow. Some of the most exciting non-"Apple product release" news in months, and it happens while I'm too busy with real work to keep up with the boards. Figures.
At any rate, congrats to all the new Mods (and even the mod mini :)). Excellent picks all the way around. It'll be nice to have the broader online coverage that overseas Mods will bring.
edesignuk, while I'll miss some of your more "entertaining" postings, even a toned down you is quite a bit of personality. Of course, now I won't have a chance to laugh at the "free iPod" morons in the morning, as you will have Wasted them before I get on. Small price.
bousozoku, Nermal, and WinterMute are all great choices. I have enjoyed their advice, wisdom, humor and observations in the few months I've been on MR. I have no doubt they will serve as great Mods.
There, that ought to be enough brown-nosing to start. Now, to go online and order four of those fancy massaging chair inserts....

Every time I see a blood drive my blood just boils... As an HIV negative gay man who is in a monogamous committed long term relationship with my partner, I doubt I am any more of a risk then any other heterosexual couple in a relationship, yet they don't see it that way....

Thank you, Apple, for weeding out the companies whose business model depends on selling my information to junk-mailers.
This is the kind of 'crazy-Steve-Jobs-control' I can live with.
How hard is it to uncheck these two boxes?

And other publications, like The Economist, already come with the equivalent boxes unchecked by default.

obviously you have never shopped for Enterprise storage for a SAN
back when 2TB drives were $300 or so we bought some 500GB drives from EMC for $800 each plus or minus some $$$.
Agreed. I just spent 55k on 9.6TB of raw fibre channel storage for our 3PAR. That's 16 600GB drives if you were wondering.

Not really, Tower Records wasn't working because they didn't move online with their catalogue quickly enough. The commercial real estate is getting way overpriced.
Else why is Virgin Megastore and HMV still around?
HMVs have been closed across the US, and even some Virgins have shut their doors.
I think Tower was just the first in line, not the exception to the rule...

That was the date I joined over 3 years ago now. An interesting point is that my 3 years is marked by the same day that Steve will keynote at MWSF, kinda eerie.
Whats a little sad is that there are only 15 people with join dates before me that are still active posters.
Cheers and were all looking forward to 5 years at Macrumors:)

Reading through this thread, I was wondering how many people defending the iPad are actually aware of its inherent shortcomings for professional users , and have actually used programs like Photoshop .
The iPad was never meant to be used by professionals, it is not compatible with pro apps and devices on a basic level, like colour spaces, connectivity, file import/export, tethering, to name a few .
As it's been pointed out before, finger gestures are a crutch, not an enhancement, just like they were since the introduction of trackpads .
SJ called the iPad a post-PC computer - nothing could be further from the truth.
It might help to develop better input devices in the future, but right now Apple doesn't seem to be part of it, aiming their products at a retro oriented crowd which is merely asking for simplification, instead of progress.
^This. Well stated.
I live in Lightroom and Photoshop. (I literally earn my living with them).
i do believe the "pros" are missing the point here though. photoshop can be very useful to a lot of people right now.
We don't care about how useful the iPad is to "other" people. Good for them. The iPad is a consumer device designed for the general consuming public and always will be. It will never replace the tools "imaging specialists" need.
The argument seems to be that I need to adopt the iPad and adapt to its shortcomings for my field while waiting for current technology to be included in subsequent versions. And as a pro, if I don't then I'll be left in the dust.
LOL!
The problem is a lot of people want the iPad to be more than it is. I fully understand it's one of those devices that leaves you begging for more but at the end of the day it's just a tablet with all the inherent shortcomings associated with it's weak features and intended market.
It's really that simple.
you don't always have access or want to carry the 15 pound camera bag, the 5 pound laptop and the wacom tablet.
Then these people aren't pros. This is what we do. I would sooner shed some weight elsewhere than use a silly-assed iPad instead a laptop with 1 TB of disk storage, SD slot, the CPU to handle multiple loads in PhotoShop, burn the occasional proofs to DVD for a client, etc... And not to mention, the ability to tether with my cameras to the laptop should I need to.

Petabytes didn't exist in my dictionary until today. Thank you, MacRumors.
My first thought has already been said.
Im curious how long that will suffice...
My first question has been asked.
12 petabytes? That doesn't seem like too much, actually. that's 1GB of storage for 12 million customers
My first concern has been noted.
---
This thread has read my mind today. I learned what a Petabyte is - today is a good day.
I am concerned about how long Apple will take to fill that space and need to expand, of course, this is the first round of storage purchasing, and I'm sure there is more to come - but I'm not as concerned as I am interested. The rate at which this storage is used, consumed, and expanded upon will really show how far we've come in terms of computing capacity.
An IT professor I know whom I saw today said, "It's a great time to be alive", and that has stuck with me very well for the past few hours. I truly am happy to be here to witness our expansion in technology. :)
